The Room

Through my work, I always make my own inner space that I can stay. This is a space where I can make relationships with others and at the same time is one where I can rest in just for myself.

All spaces have an door to move on to the next space. The door is sometimes hidden so that we can't find it. "The Room" is where I stay in for a moment to seek the door. Besides, it is a small room that exists somewhere between the space of the past that I spent agonizing over, and the space of the future that I should go toward again.

"The Room" looks similar to my real room. The moment that something forgotten for a long time and myself were combined completely again in it, the space where I stay everyday has come to me suddenly as a totally new and full space, as if scattered pieces of puzzle collected at a time and revealed a hidden picture.

Sitting in this room, I put together pieces of puzzle of myself. Bring up the pieces such as my weakness I've been denying, memories that I didn't accept to remember, wounds that were left deserted somewhere, I try to put them on the right position and complete the puzzle. These meaningful pieces become accomplished as an organic structure with the subtle sense of unity.

Assembling the pieces in the room, I do not try to think of something. I do not try too hard to find an door. I only stay there and look at myself as the way I am, and keep putting the pieces into the place where they should be. Unwittingly, all of a sudden, the pieces tightly organized as a whole space and reveal the exit to me. And the very exit to the next room is already open to me.
